What’s in SM CDO Downtown Premier? Is it Flood Free?

SM CDO Downtown Premier is SM Prime Holding’s 61st mall, the sixth in Mindanao, and the second in Cagayan de Oro. It is a 5-level, 177,743.21 square meter mall located at the busy intersection of Claro M. Recto Avenue and Osmena Streets. There is also a prime office space of eight floors in the future BPO tower.

Worried about flooding? SM CDO Downtown Premier is said to be equipped with Rainwater Catchment System – it’s a basin underneath the Main Mall Building measuring 3,000 square meters and six meters deep. It can hold up to 13, 650 cubic meters of water or close to 13.7 million liters of water.  The tank capacity was based on the 24- hour rainfall intensity of 455 mm brought by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009. With that worry off your list – let’s get back in SM. 😛

SM CDO Downtown Premier brings an uptown vibe to the downtown area. The five floors includes The SM Store and SM Supermarket which are its major retail anchors, as well as the SM mainstays like SM Appliance, Toy Kingdom, Our Home, Surplus, Sports Central and Pet Express.  The mall will also have hundreds of stores – fashion boutiques, shoe stores, home stores, novelty stores, and more, including a Cyberzone for the tech generation, and a Wellness Center.

Global brands are also there like Forever 21 (now open), Uniqlo (opens on June 30!), Miniso, The Body Shop, Watsons, Ace Hardware, Crocs, Giordano, The Face Shop, and Oakley, as well as well-loved Filipino brands like National Bookstore, Bench, and Penshoppe.

For foodies, outdoor dining will enliven the street with restaurant balconies available on both sides. SM CDO Downtown Premier also has a Food Hall with wide variety of food choices and eating out options ranging from local and international fast food chains to specialty restaurants. Foodies will surely love trying out the mall’s homegrown restaurants which I’ve personally tried and would recommend – Missy Bonbon, Bigby’s, Damaso, Hanabel’s, and Hungry Plate. For desserts or just a quick healthy munch or gulp – I would recommend Fruitfull. I have still yet to explore these homegrown restaurants: Ribs and Bibs, Chez Marie, Salo Salo sa Panagatan, Barkadahan Grill, Bingsoo, Naicha, Sweet Cravings and Arturos. Here’s a video of the Food Hall a day before the opening:

For film/movie buffs, SM Cinema CDO Downtown Premier have seven cinemas – four digital theaters, 2 Director’s Clubs, and one large format digital cinema. Here’s the preview of Cinema 3 taken a day before the opening:

What’s in Chicken Deli?

Chicken Deli, which stands for “Chicken delicious,” was born in 1983 in the sunny city of Bacolod, which is itself the home of Inasal. It only started with an idea, with the need and desire, that was put into action by founder – ‘Mamang’ Lourdes Ciocon. She was orphaned at a young age and widowed at 29 left with 3 children to take care of by herself. She turned into her cooking skills and made waves!

What started out small, was sought after and it boomed so much that not only was the humble restaurant overflowing with Bacolod natives, but also Manilenyos, and even foreign tourists. Now spreading all over the country! Just, wow! Below is a photo taken just before the ribbon cutting ceremony of Chicken Deli – Cagayan de Oro Branch.

Chicken Deli CDO – preopening

Yesterday, Bacolod’s authentic Chicken Inasal opened its doors at the 3rd floor of Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno was the special guest during the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Mayor said a few words before the ceremony started, in his speech he mentioned knowing about this restaurant and its authenticity and the friendship between Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod and emphasizing we now have direct flights between the two cities. Watch the live video taken by my friend here.

LEGO’s here to unlock CdeO’s creativity

In case you didn’t know, the word “lego” is an abbreviation of two Danish words, “leg godt,” which means “play well.” In Latin, the word means “I put together.” The Danish company was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, a carpenter.

The founder’s dream was to “inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow.

With toys? How?

Well, for one, playing with LEGO teaches kids to think in three dimensions. It develops their problem-solving skills, organization, and planning by construction. For the little ones, it will boost their motor development. It also improves literacy and communication as kids work through the instructions. Amazing so far, right?

Here’s a glimpse of the early LEGO creations…

In 1947, plastic blocks were introduced and as time went by different models and sets came out. LEGO creations has then become a form of storytelling for some. May it be in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Architecture – anything a kid (and adult) can imagine it can definitely be made. These legendary toys have made so much difference ever-since their creation!

And now, our city has a store! The First CERTIFIED Store in Mindanao. What does that mean? It means the store doesn’t just sell LEGO’s, they have a much fun setup. They have a Pick-a-Brick wall in the store where shoppers can hand-pick the parts that they need, they have fully assembled LEGO sets around the store for inspiration (not just the usual stacked boxes on display), an interactive play area in the center of the store for the kids to have a “hands-on, minds-on” experience with LEGO bricks, and exclusive sets not available in other stores. Below are some photos.

Very affordable Poly Bags are also available at P100 each in support of the fundraising campaign for the National Centre for Children with Disabilities where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to this UNICEF project. They have 4 different designs – NinjaGO, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO Duplo lines. You get to have fun and help children along the way.

Go now and visit them at the Ground floor of Ayala Centrio Mall. They are open from Monday to Sundays from 10 AM – 9 PM.
