Nic’s Pizza Baguettes – Not your ordinary pizza

Nic’s Pizza Baguettes is Cagayan de Oro’s Homegrown Pizza place. A product and blend of Kagay-anons with nothing but love for food with the urge of having everyone else try the goodness. You know what I’m saying? haha!

Everything in their menu is either a recipe that has been passed on to generations or their own little twist of some good food that they’ve tried along their life journey, that they really want to share.

From Pizza de Oro, to Captain Richie’s Baby Back Ribs, to Nic’s Pizza Baguettes now – I’ve seen them morph into something great and fought undefeated by circumstances along their way.

So, about the food.. when we talk about PIzza, the picture that normally comes to mind is the triangular shaped slice or the square ones – right? Nic’s dared to be different and started with the common French Baguette instead – thus the name.

When we eat Pizza we usually get to taste the crust first (first to touch our tongue), then the sauce, and the toppings. We know from that process what we love and do not love. I’d have to say, everyone should try this combo. It’s beyond the taste of the pizza parlors that we frequent – the “crust” is different, the sauce, and the cheese blend too. Your pizza experience here will definitely be uniquely good.

Wouldn’t it be great if one of our city’s flavors would be sought after and tried by people from outside us? Clearly, I’m a fan and would love you to be one too.

Anyhow, here’s some of the newest additions to their menu and the exact reason why I’m writing about this right now when I should have been working. (Sorry boss – just had to let it go somehow). I had to take a break because I have been distracted and kept thinking about it’s goodness. Haha! I personally love their Pepperoni Square Pizza (with that new dough! <3) and Garlic and Chili or was it Chili Garlic? Not sure now. But try them all. And oh, those potato wedges.. nomnomnom.

Their Limketkai Branch opened at 10 AM today – November 8, 2017. They’ll be serving the Baguette and Fries combo. They’re still thinking about which menu to add in next – but eventually the goodness will be spilled over to the mall branch. That’s a promise.

If you happen to be in Dvsoria area, the main branch is in Dolores St., beside Dolores Apartments, Cagayan de Oro City. The Limketkai Branch is near Cinema 1 and 2. Another branch will also open at the CDO Bar Food Park anytime soon.

What’s in SM CDO Downtown Premier? Is it Flood Free?

SM CDO Downtown Premier is SM Prime Holding’s 61st mall, the sixth in Mindanao, and the second in Cagayan de Oro. It is a 5-level, 177,743.21 square meter mall located at the busy intersection of Claro M. Recto Avenue and Osmena Streets. There is also a prime office space of eight floors in the future BPO tower.

SM CDO Downtown Premier

Worried about flooding? SM CDO Downtown Premier is said to be equipped with Rainwater Catchment System – it’s a basin underneath the Main Mall Building measuring 3,000 square meters and six meters deep. It can hold up to 13, 650 cubic meters of water or close to 13.7 million liters of water.  The tank capacity was based on the 24- hour rainfall intensity of 455 mm brought by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009. With that worry off your list – let’s get back in SM. 😛

SM CDO Downtown Premier brings an uptown vibe to the downtown area. The five floors includes The SM Store and SM Supermarket which are its major retail anchors, as well as the SM mainstays like SM Appliance, Toy Kingdom, Our Home, Surplus, Sports Central and Pet Express.  The mall will also have hundreds of stores – fashion boutiques, shoe stores, home stores, novelty stores, and more, including a Cyberzone for the tech generation, and a Wellness Center.

Global brands are also there like Forever 21 (now open), Uniqlo (opens on June 30!), Miniso, The Body Shop, Watsons, Ace Hardware, Crocs, Giordano, The Face Shop, and Oakley, as well as well-loved Filipino brands like National Bookstore, Bench, and Penshoppe.

Uniqlo will open on June 30 – SM CDO Downtown Premier

For foodies, outdoor dining will enliven the street with restaurant balconies available on both sides. SM CDO Downtown Premier also has a Food Hall with wide variety of food choices and eating out options ranging from local and international fast food chains to specialty restaurants. Foodies will surely love trying out the mall’s homegrown restaurants which I’ve personally tried and would recommend – Missy Bonbon, Bigby’s, Damaso, Hanabel’s, and Hungry Plate. For desserts or just a quick healthy munch or gulp – I would recommend Fruitfull. I have still yet to explore these homegrown restaurants: Ribs and Bibs, Chez Marie, Salo Salo sa Panagatan, Barkadahan Grill, Bingsoo, Naicha, Sweet Cravings and Arturos. Here’s a video of the Food Hall a day before the opening:

For the Java lovers – Starbucks is at the ground floor near the C.M Recto entrance, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at the Supermarket Entrance. I remember there’s Dunkin Donuts too. I haven’t explored the whole mall yet! Will update this list soon.

For film/movie buffs, SM Cinema CDO Downtown Premier have seven cinemas – four digital theaters, 2 Director’s Clubs, and one large format digital cinema. Here’s the preview of Cinema 3 taken a day before the opening:

What’s in Chicken Deli?

Chicken Deli, which stands for “Chicken delicious,” was born in 1983 in the sunny city of Bacolod, which is itself the home of Inasal. It only started with an idea, with the need and desire, that was put into action by founder – ‘Mamang’ Lourdes Ciocon. She was orphaned at a young age and widowed at 29 left with 3 children to take care of by herself. She turned into her cooking skills and made waves!

What started out small, was sought after and it boomed so much that not only was the humble restaurant overflowing with Bacolod natives, but also Manilenyos, and even foreign tourists. Now spreading all over the country! Just, wow! Below is a photo taken just before the ribbon cutting ceremony of Chicken Deli – Cagayan de Oro Branch.

Chicken Deli CDO – preopening

Yesterday, Bacolod’s authentic Chicken Inasal opened its doors at the 3rd floor of Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno was the special guest during the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Mayor said a few words before the ceremony started, in his speech he mentioned knowing about this restaurant and its authenticity and the friendship between Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod and emphasizing we now have direct flights between the two cities. Watch the live video taken by my friend here.
